"Not looking to cause trouble, see, you decide to leave." From Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patric Harris
I pick up the book and begin to read "...Not looking to cause trouble, see, you decide to leave..." Perfect, I think, as I underline that phrase, already forming a clear idea of what I wanted to say. The date was September 8th 2016, and I was just sitting on my couch wondering what I was going to do about my English Blog assignment, when bam! a thought hit me like a sack of bricks. I look over to my dad who's yelling at the TV about something I didn't care about in the least, and I shout over him, "Dad, what do you think of the idea of me writing about this!" He gives me a confused, side-long glance before locking eyes with the TV again and replying with a simple"huh?" I on the other hand can't sit still and begin to think more and more about it before saying to my oh so distracted father "like since in the suggestions part of the instructions page to the blog assignment, it says Your Words Become Mine. As long as I start with a sentence of an autobiography I can write about ANY part of my life, including this moment right now!" I'm practically shirking now, but I couldn't care any less. He pauses for a long time before he responds with, " I think that'll work just fine sweetie" Then I began rattling off about what I will say and other non-important details at that time but I am quite rudely interrupted by my dad," just don't ask your teacher about it." I inquire, " why though?" He sighs exasperatedly like it was the most obvious reason in the world before begrudgingly saying "because Sky, if you tell them before hand then the surprise is completely ruined. She will already be expecting it." I mulled his comment over for a good 10 minutes, before I too think it would be a good move not to share that piece of information with my teacher, even if I might want to know if that would even be allowed or not. But, caution be darned, so I begin to write.
I really enjoyed this blog. I liked the use of dialogue and in the prompt when I think about a moment in my life I always think about a memory from the past never the present and that just opened my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI truly love this, I think it is a creative twist on the assignment itself and just a wonderful piece of writing. I absolutely love the detail you put into it and I love the perspective in which it is written. Again so great, it is because of posts like this that give me any interest in this assignment. Very inspiring.
