As I read this memware many things start to come together, as do most books. But, there are definitely some things that I'm really questioning and can't stop thinking about. For instance, why are Rex Wells' (the father) parents never mentioned, or spoken of. A good portion of the book is spent discussing their mother's mother. At one point they even move into her house, but still there is no mention of the grandmother on their fathers side. For all we know she could be dead, rich, poor, close, far, or god knows what. One other thing that I notice is that there is also no mention of her fathers childhood. We were given lots of background and told that her mother grew up wealthy and in good care. We were never given any insight into what  his childhood was like, for all we know something dramatic could have happened to him that causes him bad temper.

We're basically left in the dark whenever it comes to her father witch is the exact opposite of her mother which we know a lot about. That leads me to the biggest and most prominent question: why does their mother stay with their father. The kids  partilly raised themselves and I'm almost positive they could handle the news. Its just that their father can have a really bad temper with the kids and his wife. He will go out and spend most of the family money on booze and clubs, and then when everyone is hungry they aren't allowed to complain. Their father also CHEATS on their mother with a hooker on his sons birthday right in front of him! I just don't see how she can be with someone like that. Its not that she is oblivious to all this, because she is very aware of everything happening. I look forward to most of this being explained later on in the book.

  1. The conflict (sort of) between the mother and father reminds me of the mother and father from the memoir I'm reading, The Color of Water. In this memoir, the parents of Mrs. McBride (James's mother), were never at good ends, because of how the father acted. Her father was terrible, always cheating people when it came to money, overworked his kids (Especially this son named Sam), and abused his wife, who stayed with him and stayed loyal to him because it happened to be her religious duty.
