What I wonder about the process of memoir writing is how the author can think so deeply and far back that it seems to be smoothly written down without hesitation. I also always wonder if authors leave out any events whether, if its because they don't rember exactly what happened or if they feel like its not relevant to the story. I also wonder how authors can bring themselves to publish a book to the public about a specific event in their lifetime.
As I am thinking about my memoir I am woried about not knowing something in complete detail and a part of my story won't be as interesting as the rest. I am also worried that my memoir isn't going to be as good because its an event that happened about eight yeras ago, and I was six at the time. It is also something that happened asI was traveling across the country. My last worry is that my memoir wont reach the lenght required because it was an event that happened in about one through two weeks.
I see what you mean about how smoothly the writing comes across. Reading a couple memoirs has shown me that is very true. Although I never questioned it, I am glad you did. Almost like they are making things up so it fits or they are lucky and can remember every detail.
ReplyDeleteI agree remebering the details is definitely a problem for most writers. However, if a quote is very significant to their life they definitely would have an easier time remembering. I want to know how they know the exact details of the other person's life in the story and why its in the story in the first place. Especially if its about the narrator.

ReplyDeleteI know how you feel, remembering things from yesterday are hard let alone years ago. Remembering quotes that people said are never exactly what the person actually said because you don't remember word for word. You have to remember as well as you can what someone said and make your own quote. I have the same worries as you do.
