Into Thin Air Blog #1

"But now that I was finally here, actually standing on the summit of Mount Everest, I just couldn't summon the energy to care."

I love this quote because I think it perfectly describes how he was feeling. He was so exhausted, sleep deprived, and hungry what he saw in front of him was just another landscape. Jon Krakauer had been waiting for this moment to reach the top of the world for many months. Now that he was there, was it really worth it to reach the tallest mountain in the world and only be there for five minutes?

This quote represents how you can work so hard for something and not get what you wanted out of it. Many people believe if you work hard for something you will get what you wanted. That is not always the case, but in this quote Krakauer reached the summit and knew it was magnificent but just did not care enough. In all of our lives we have tried so hard to get something we would never have or would be so close to having but we never got there.

In my life I have worked so hard for so many things and came back with nothing but knowledge. Sometimes all you could get is experience and knowledge but that is better than wondering what you really learned from it. There are times were you ask yourself do you even care anymore, is it really worth it. The answers to that are yes. In the end what you get out of it does not matter it is only that you learned from it. Experience and knowledge are the two most valuable qualities in life that can help everyone in the future. Add confidence and to passion to it, you are unstoppable. Jon Krakauer had all of these qualities and he climbed Mount Everest.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your blog post because it gave me a deeper look into the reading and I could also connect it to my own life, he really found ways to slip things into his writing that were relatable and that was really cool because the writing was super vague in some places and that balanced it out.
