Into Thin Air Blog #1
As I was reading the first few chapters of this book I noticed that the author, Jon Krakauer, has a really good voice and can get the point across to the reader in a forewarning way. A quote that has really stuck out to me so far is the very last paragraph in chapter 6 page 88. The quote is-- " ... she sensed the true dimensions of my desire and it scared her. "If you get killed," she argued with a mix of despair and anger, "it's not just you who'll pay the price. I'll have to pay, too, you know, for the rest of my life. Doesn't that matter to you?" "I'm not going to get killed," I answered. "Don't be melodramatic." I think the significance of this quote is that later on he brushes with death through various circumstances and through that quote he's telling us in kind of a secret way?? I don't really know how to explain it but it is foreshadowing what will happen in the mere future. What I really liked about this quote is that he has made it very clear to us throughout the first few chapters that it was his decision to go on this journey, he was finally gathering the courage to do this even after he has explained that he didn't think he was very experienced in climbing. The fact that he is saying now that everything will be fine and there's no need to worry is so ironic to me that it's art ya know. Maybe? Well to me it is.

I like how you noticed the foreshadowing I also noticed that in the somber tone of the book.
ReplyDeleteI really like that you had very much good insight on the book and how you were very good at noticing tone and mood and pointing it out for others to see also.I really find it interesting that you observed thee things and that you were able to look deeper into the book and find hidden meaning in the simplest of passages.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. The author is showing how he will have mere death experiences but in the end will come home to his wife not dead. Foreshadowing his future will give us clues of what will happen later in the book. You did a great job at finding hidden clues within hidden texts.
