amanda's like totally lame blog
Okay. This is gonna be a weird blog. Be prepared, and know I've never done this before. First off, I can't really relate to the story because I'm boring as hell, and I'm only on chapter 4.

Yep. Just a boring lil' turd. The book is pretty good so far, and I like it, but can't really relate. So, back to the task at hand, I think that the author portrays the feeling of being excluded by using his literary devices and hyperboles and saying things like "my mom was the only white woman on this side of town". When I write my memoir, (which I have to because it is a grade) it's probably going to be more funny, and less important, since my life has basically been a piece of cake, and I've never really been discriminated against. The author also says that he was a kid living in the time of the black panthers and the kkk, and that alone is enough to really mess someone up bad. this is so much to write about seeing as I've read four chapters. so far not much has happened in the book except his dad and stepdad both died when he was a kid, and his mom got an old bike that she rides everywhere. His mom was raised as an orthodox jew by very strict parents and wasn't really allowed to do anything except read and pray. (wow this blog is a mess)
The author's mom also had a lot of kids with no father figure to help raise them most of the time. The author's mom was very strict and secretive like much of her family was, and she was anti-racist, but also anti-violence. Even when mocked and discriminated against, she still kept on doing her thing, and being a cool lady.
How did I know this post would be amazing? Maybe it's because you asked about memes in class... But truly, I appreciate your oh so perfectly stated point that life has been a piece of cake so you'll make your memoir humorous (like this post!). No matter how small or insignificant the life experience, a great writer (ahem, everyone participating on this blog!) can make it 1) entertaining and 2) meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in if you find any scenes in the book that seem kind of boring day-to-day events that McBride makes interesting through the writing itself.
Meme credit +100
So I would just like to say that at first I only read this because I know you but after reading it I felt that you did a great job and it was worth it. You do have a very easy looking life from what I know (but you continue you to make mine a little weirder everyday no surprise). I feel as though you could make this whole blog thing work to your advantage. You seem to be a natural at this all together. Well you'll probably do better than I feel I did. Why don't you go read mine and tell me how I did. This feels like I'm dragging on so I guess I'll see you tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJust looking at this single post, I already know that your memoir will interesting and humorous, no matter how boring your life seems. With many memoirs, I'm bored to death because the writers don't write with a personality, but if you keep this up, I'm sure you could make eating breakfast seem interesting. Good job on your post!
