this should have a title but it looks like this is it or...Grammar?
I just wanna take the time to say thank you to grammar. "Why grammar?", you may be asking. Well if you would have given me a second I would have told you. Grammar is very important to authors everywhere. No matter if they are writing a memoir or just a normal old book. In fact grammar is more than just how to put sentences together or what you mistake for graham cracker when when you're hungry during English Language arts class. It can be used to... wait for it! Describe the character. Author's memoirs can use grammar to give development to the timeline of their lives. They can use it to go from age to age. So maybe their two year old self would have awkward broken grammar where the sentences are messed up but still adorable. But the thirty year old self has great grammar. or maybe if they were born in an older generation so the style was different from now. Sometimes the author will talk about how he or she met someone form a different country. if they knew how to speak English or the language of the author their grammar would be difficult to understand. Word parts will be switched around or there will be extra words. This is a great way to develop the character so the reader gets a good feel of that person. grammar can also show personality. Like valley girls use their own style of speaking, even though this a majorly used stereotype, they add the word 'like' to everything. this give the author a chance to describe a friend maybe or a loved one or someone they met on the road. The author could be young so they use a lot of slang. These things tell you a little bit about the smaller details as they go on about the bigger details and events we get and understand. below her is a selection of clips from a show called "Hetalia", which by the way I happen to love. the first and most important clip is a secondary character named Finland and his small memoir of how he runs away with his friend Sweden. His English is pretty good but you can hear the extra words added from time to time but if were reading his words you could probably tell he was from a different country.
Now that we all know how grammar helps an author write memoirs and other genres of books I bid you a-goodnight!

I think with grammar the English language would be useless and writing would even be useless. I think grammar is what makes the English language unique and different from other languages. As writers I think that we should learn how to use grammar properly in our writing.
ReplyDeletelol of course there has to be hetalia
ReplyDeleteWow Amanda Just like that was your only comment
DeleteI think you're right, grammar can really convey a lot about the characters and the plot of the story or memoir. I'm not sure if this is one of the reasons English is so difficult, but it might be. If we didn’t use grammar we would not know who the characters are as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I really do think that grammar is the reason why English is so hard.
DeleteWow! Good description, but the video doesn't work because "This video contains content from Funimation Entertainment, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds." Such a bummer! Great post and funny title, but the video didn't work! :(
