glas castle by clay

Just from the first part of this book I can already tell that life will be hard for her. It's crazy that her parents are dragging her along on there wild life that is not in anyway good for kids. I feel that the author must have mad up at least some of this content, because no one can remember this much and some of these things seem a little over the top. One thing that really shocked me was the fact that when she was in the hospital recuperating she escaped. Without any warn8ing her father comes and takes her from the hospital, directly disobeying the doctors orders. She could have gotten an infection or sicker just because her dad thinks that you can easily survive anything that life throws at you. These kids have never been able to experience life to any extent, their example of fun is getting to sleep in cardboard boxes INSTEAD of beds. I really loved the quote, "time to pull up stakes and leave this shit-hole behind". This basically sums up the book in one sentence, because thats her life. The whole time so far just when she starts to get settled in they have to pack up and leave to some unknown place that they don't even know is going to exist. I can't even begin imagine how much stress that must put them under, not just her but her whole family. Some of the things that have happened so far seem very questionable to me in general. For instance how do they have money to buy a car, but not enough for any food at all. Hold up and lemme do the math.... yea that just doesn't add up.  Thats all of my thought on the book so far, and this was surprisingly more fun than I anticipated.

  2. I'm also reading 'The Glass Castle' and have a lot of the same questions you do. It's very clear that she made up a lot of the details because no one can remember events from when they were three, and one of the major questions I had was how they managed to get a new car when they couldn't even get food on the table. As I've read more of the book I've seen that sometimes they do have money and it's not always a total struggle, but the father often uses it up with his drinking habits. Around page 130 it actually tell about how exactly her mom saved the money and then got a very cheap used car from a special. In that case it as only $200, which is a lot for them, but not as much as you would expect to spend on a car. I also agree that this is a very horrible family situation and it's hard to read as the author realizes how flawed it really is. As kids we don't see the flaws in our parents because we look up to them, but as she's getting older she realizing that boxes aren't so fun to sleep in and life isn't the big adventure her parents made it out to be. (PS you might want to read through this again and fix some major spelling stuff. lol.)

  3. You did nice job CLay on your entry. I feel like you really shared a detailed description of you feel about the authors life and how you think the author feels about their life. The quote that you chose for your entry lets me know how the mood and tone are in the story. Creating an image in my mind that I'd think her life must be like.

  5. This entry is well-written. It really makes me want to read the book! I like how descriptive it is and how you get a sense of anxiety just from reading your blog entry. I am glad the author chose to write this book and show everyone just how crappy a person's life can be.

  8. It seems that life for our character has a really rough life. I honestly would hate to be dragged around everywhere with my parents and not have any choice in what i was able to do. I agree with your statement about when they took her out of the hospital, which clearly shows that her health isnt that important to her parents because if it was they would have let her stay and get better. Great i liked your review and this seems like an interesting book so far.
